Alternative Investment Fund Manager Directive
has implemented the Alternative Investment Fund Manager Directive 2011/61/EU (the so-called AIFMD) issued for managers of alternative investment funds (EU AIF ManCo).
AIFMD focuses on the European Passport mechanism, i.e. an EU AIF ManCo can manage a European Union AIF, if it is authorized to manage, in the state of origin, an AIF with characteristics similar to the one subject to approval by the state of destination.
The European Passport system is based on a constant exchange of information between the authorities of all the countries involved.
